McLaren Vale is the home of sustainable wine production in the north-west of Fleurieu, around 35km south of Adelaide. A diverse variety of grapes grow in McLaren’s Mediterranean-like climate, on vineyards sometimes over a century old. The fresh ocean breezes and chilly winds from the hills help to cool grapes during the growing season. Awarding winning Shiraz hails from this region, with a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon coming behind in close second. White grape varieties include fruity Chardonnay and delicate Sauvignon Blanc.
